The lender reviews the business’s card transaction history, typically three to six months of merchant statements, and uses that to calculate how much can be advanced and at what cost. Rather than an interest rate, MCAs use a factor rate: a multiplier applied to the advance amount to determine the total repayment.

For example, an advance of £20,000 with a factor rate of 1.25 means a total repayment of £25,000. That £25,000 is collected gradually through a fixed percentage of daily card sales, so the speed of repayment depends entirely on how the business performs.
